[ Have a very reluctant text message, Viktor. While he isn't exactly interested in dating... especially another guy, he's fine with... hanging out? ]

Hey. This is Gladio Amicia. We've apparently been paired together for some event for Valentine's Day.

[ ...That looks as stupid as it sounded in his head. Sigh. ]

Anyway, I'm not looking for anything romantic, but nothing wrong with meeting someone new and getting free refreshments out of it. Of course, if you've got plans, don't feel like this is something you have to do, alright?

Hi! I'm not looking for anything romantic either, so that's perfect. In fact, I assumed the initial message was spam. Hanging out sounds great!

[ ...He really didn't make any plans with anyone, as the date snuck up on him. His romantic interest may not have agreed to go out with him anyway, but he doesn't know that. More importantly, he's never been on a blind date! And new experiences are kind of his thing. ]

I'm free after 7. Do you have anything in mind?

I thought the same thing, so I responded just to see if it seemed like an actual person if/when they responded back.

[ Gladio hasn't been on one, either, since most people are probably too afraid to try setting him up on one or something he's never had time for things like this. ]

After 7 works for me. We could just meet at the designated spot and go from there. I haven't figured out where the best place to go might be, since aren't most places packed around the holidays?

They are. But we should be fine as long as we stay away from date spots! It will be crowded, but not impossible. I can try to make a reservation for dinner.

[ Viktor is nothing if not optimistic. You could also call him privileged. But optimistic sounds better! ]

Well, I certainly won't discourage you trying. If you know a place that serves up decent noodle dishes or burgers, I'm game for just about anything.

If you're okay with either of those kinds of foods, I know a few places I could try getting a table at.

[ Gladio isn't going to hold his breath. Besides, if it comes down to it, he does know how to cook some pretty A+ steaks on his grill. Never mind that it's probably not the right weather for grilling. He does what he wants. ]

Fantastic! As long as it's good, I'm OK with anything.

[ That's not asking for too much, is it? Seriously, though, it's been a while since he last ate these kinds of foods, so he thinks it's a great idea. ]

Let's both try our Valentine's Day luck and see where that gets us. Worst comes to worst, there's always frozen food.

I'm gonna go ahead and make it clear that I don't have any plans of leaving you eating frozen food. Romantic or not, I can't leave you with some crazy idea that I'm an awful date.

[ Look, if this is going to be a thing, he's going to make it the best possible thing ever, all right? But... as he said he'd do, he's messaging Viktor approximately an hour later with: ]

Unless you had better luck than me, I do have one idea that I think is way better than cramming into a crowded restaurant.

[ Viktor is going to make a couple of calls and find out that, yes, he can get reservations at certain places, but... none of them are good choices for a date that's not meant to be romantic. On the 14th. Even though Viktor finds this slightly frustrating, he's also very amused by the whole situation.

And then Gladio writes. He hadn't given up on finding a good alternative yet, but this sounds potentially better. ]

Oh? I'm intrigued.

Well, I know it's probably not the time of year for it, but I do know how to grill a mean steak.

As long as you're not allergic to dogs or something, we could just hang out at my place with Rufus and maybe a couple of beers.

[ That sounds like he has enough place for two dogs. Gladio, you have no idea how happy you've made him. This person takes his dog along whenever he can, dance studio, bar and coffee shops included. Gotta make up for lost time. ]

That sounds great, actually. [ But it won't be just a couple of beers... It's Valentine's Day! ] Want to make this a double date? I can bring Makkachin to keep Rufus company, hopefully they'll get along.

[ And about a minute later. ]

We'll have to keep an eye on the food if I bring him. He's an old dog but he still loves food too much.

[ Oh, yes. Definitely no problem with this guy bringing his dog -- he enjoys letting Rufus make friends, after all. Annnnd yeah, it won't be a couple of beers if he gets relaxed enough. Which, is possible since it'll just be the two of them plus a pair of dogs. The best kind of setting (in his opinion), honestly, for kicking back. ]

Yeah, sure. No problem on this end. Rufus is great with other animals, and the more exposure the better.

[ ...Well, he might know a way to keep the old guy busy. ]

Well, actually, do you have a problem with him eating people food? Whenever I cook a meal for other people, I like to make something special for Rufus. I don't mind tossing something on the grill for Makkachin while I'm at it. Anything he can't have aside from the obvious?

Just the obvious. He's not an omnivore, no matter how much he insists... And he doesn't usually eat people food, but I can make an exception. He'll love you for it.

How about we meet up at Recollé Square at 7PM? Makkachin's a standard poodle and we have each other's profile picture. I'll also bring my card so we can buy some beers when we're close to your place, I'll pay for that since you're cooking.

Rufus is the same way. Caught him trying to get into a bag of chips just the other day.
I don't do anything super special to the food I'll be making for them, so there won't be any spices or ingredients that could hurt them.

Sure thing. Rufus is a chocolate lab.
Well, if you insist on buying. Just know I have no problem doing it.
